Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.
The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over on Saturday.
The touring camp reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "during the day".
The final Test of the series at the SCG starts this coming Sunday.
The English side has been without fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.
Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.
He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.
