Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
