A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three individuals, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.
The reason behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, police said.

Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the site managing the setup of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.
"The report indicates the man was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities said.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.
