The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
