The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
