The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the scene. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The single features a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
