This statement addressed earlier musings about providing advanced missiles to the Ukrainian military.

An ex- American diplomat, a foreign policy expert, commented, "The Russian leader is attempting to disrupt the momentum toward greater pressure on Russia." Fried continued, "The outcome will become clear tomorrow, but the chances of moving toward a truce by pressuring Moscow to engage sincerely appear to have diminished."

The situation came after the US president had recently been hardening his rhetoric toward Russia until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Kremlin characterized as "extremely frank and constructive."

European Fuel Sanctions and Economic Effects

EU authorities have set a mandate for energy suppliers into the EU to demonstrate their products are not sourced from Russian crude, according to a official guideline released on Thursday. This step is included in the European Union's forthcoming prohibition on imports of refined products processed from Russian crude, which forms part of its latest sanctions package against Moscow over its war in the region.

Market experts noted that trading patterns appeared to be considering the possible end of India's imports of Russian oil. Several Indian refiners are getting ready to reduce Russian oil imports, with expectations of a phased reduction, as reported by insiders familiar with the situation.

"This is a favorable turn for the oil market as it would eliminate a big customer of Russian oil," said Tony Sycamore, noting that oil prices were steady on the trading day.

Military Situation and Energy Strikes

A large-scale Russian drone and missile attack targeted energy infrastructure in Ukraine's eastern regions on Thursday, resulting in outages in multiple areas. Ukrainian officials stated that Russian forces deployed hundreds of unmanned vehicles and dozens of missiles, along with aerial munitions.

"This autumn, the Russians use every single day to attack at our power facilities," said Ukraine's president, adding that attacks affected the areas of northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, central Ukraine, northeastern Ukraine and western Ukraine.

International Diplomatic Reactions

Kyiv's representative to Washington, the Ukrainian ambassador, stated that Moscow showed its real attitude to peace through the "terror" of these attacks. Meanwhile, the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, announced that the European Union had little option but to strengthen anti-drone defences against Russian threats. She revealed a "roadmap" to prepare for possible conflict by the end of the decade, featuring a novel defensive network to be completely functional by the 2027 deadline.

The proposed system, called the "European drone defence initiative," is expected to begin working initially by the 2026 timeline and be completely operational by the end of 2027. Brussels hopes to obtain the support of member state representatives at a summit next week.
